Corrections Officers Win Furlough Suit -- Good Precedent for UAPD
On Thursday December 17, 2009 Alameda Superior Court Judge Frank Roesch issued a ruling in favor of the California Correctional Peace Officers Association (CCPOA), which had filed a lawsuit to challenge Governor Schwarzenegger''s furlough policy. The ruling states that "self-directed" furloughs of state workers at 24/7 facilities violate labor law. UAPD is one of several unions with similar furlough lawsuits pending in Judge Roesch's courtroom. The decision in the CCPOA case sets a promising precedent for the case filed by UAPD. So far UAPD has no word about when Judge Roesch will issue a ruling on our suit, but UAPD staff and attorneys are watching the situation closely and will contact members as soon as more is known.
