UAPD Talks Health Care Reform with U.S. Representative Pete Stark

From California's 13th Congressional District (Alameda to Fremont), U.S. Representative Pete Stark is a senior member of the powerful Ways and Means Committee, and is currently the Chairman of its Health Subcommittee.  UAPD President Dr. Stuart Bussey joined Executive Director Al Groh and Chief Legislative Representative Doug Chiappetta in a meeting with Representative Stark to discuss the role unionized doctors might play under a new health care plan.

UAPD shared its belief that everyone benefits when unionzed doctors have regular and ongoing input into decisions related to patient care practices and reimbursement levels.  For example, new legislation could requre the director of a public health insurance agency to meet and confer annually with a committee of unions representing doctors.   We believe that regular discussions would provide the insights any agency needs before making decisions that impact the quality of patient care and physicians' livelihoods.

UAPD will continue to meet with elected leaders to discuss the role of union doctors will play in health care reform.
