On Monday August 23, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed AB 1592 into law. The bill, which contained the UAPD Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) ratified by members last month, had been passed by both houses of the Legislature last week. The new contract has already provided a level of security for UAPD members that is not shared by all bargaining units. Because of the agreement, UAPD Bargaining Unit 16 is exempt from the furloughs that went into effect this month. The agreement also exempts UAPD doctors from the minimum wage order that the Governor is trying to impose on State workers who have not yet settled contracts.
