UAPD Welcomes First Bargaining Unit in New York, University at Buffalo House Staff

Buffalo, NY — The Union of American Physicians and Dentists (UAPD) is pleased to announce the formation of our newest chapter in New York with the recent union election victory at the University at Buffalo (UB).

On Thursday, 5/11/23, the National Labor Relations Board conducted the ballot count for UB’s mail-ballot election. With majority support, the UAPD is representing approximately 800 UB resident physicians, fellows, and interns who work in a variety of specialties at hospitals throughout Western New York.

“This is a banner day for the University at Buffalo house staff. By unionizing with UAPD, they will finally be able to express the collective voice and power they have sorely lacked. This is a great thing for them, their patients, and the communities that they serve,” said Dr. Stuart Bussey, UAPD President.

The University at Buffalo is the UAPD’s second unionized group of residents (the first being psychiatry residents in San Mateo County). It also the UAPD’s first bargaining unit in New York state, marking our monumentous expansion to the East Coast.
