Sacramento, Calif. – Dr. Stuart Bussey, President of the Union of American Physicians and Dentists (UAPD), joined Assemblymember Josh Lowenthal, author of AB 2223, to testify in support of legislation that would require the State of California to increase transparency in how it contracts out physician and clinical public sector positions.
The UAPD was joined by labor partners, including Carl Miller, President of AFSCME Local 2620, in highlighting the importance of accountability in decisions shaping the healthcare workforce.
AB 2223 seeks to provide greater clarity into the true costs and impacts of contracting out clinical roles in the public sector. This transparency is critical to ensuring that workforce decisions are made with a full understanding of their implications for patient care, continuity, and long-term system stability.
The bill passed out of the Assembly Public Employment and Retirement (PERS) Committee, marking an important step forward in the legislative process.
