Sacramento, Calif. – May 1, 2026 – On this May Day that honors the labor of all Californians, the Union of American Physicians and Dentists (UAPD) is proud to endorse Xavier Becerra for Governor of California. As our former Attorney General and former Secretary of the United States Department of Health and Human Services, Becerra understands the labor of healthcare workers and the difference they make delivering care to the people of this state.
California’s civil service physicians are rooted in the communities they serve, providing continuity of care that strengthens our public health infrastructure. That level of care cannot be replicated by out-of-state contractors or remote providers. The UAPD has long stood for keeping these positions in California because the physicians who care for our most vulnerable residents must be invested in our state.
Along with his physician wife, Becerra has championed and defended the Affordable Care Act against attacks by the Trump administration. He is dedicated to the expansion of healthcare for all Californians, including those in rural and underserved areas.
The UAPD looks forward to working with the next governor to advance insurance reform, strengthen the health service corps, and support the flourishing of medical research. Quality healthcare should be a right for all Californians and not just for the wealthy. Xavier Becerra has the grit and vision to work with the necessary stakeholders to make universal healthcare access a reality.
