Providers at La Familia Health Move to Unionize Amid Leadership Changes Affecting Patient Care

Santa Fe, NM, July 26, 2023 — Frontline physicians, nurse practitioners, and dentists at La Familia Health filed a petition to unionize on Tuesday, July 25, with the Union of American Physicians and Dentists.

If unionized, these providers will form a single bargaining unit to voice concerns directly to La Familia Health’s top management on issues such as patient volumes, care, wages, benefits, and other issues.

“Management is limiting the time providers spend with their patients,” said Dr. Stuart Bussey, UAPD President. “By pushing patients in and out the door to meet their daily quota, the result is assembly-line medicine. This mentality isn’t safe for patients or providers.”

The petition was filed with Region 28 of the National Labor Relations Board on Tuesday morning which will enable providers to decide whether to form a union. An election date will be determined within 45 days.

With six locations throughout Santa Fe County, La Familia Health provides medical, dental, and behavioral health services to as many as 15,000 patients a year.
