In our most recent membership meeting on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, we engaged in a candid discussion regarding the ongoing negotiations and the path forward in our efforts. We recognize it is time to escalate and stand together as a strong and unified force driven by our commitment to advocate for better terms and conditions.
It’s no secret that our negotiations with Los Angeles County have encountered challenges. Despite our unwavering dedication and the presentation of a comprehensive set of proposals, progress has been frustratingly slow. This is precisely the moment where membership unity and resilience matter most.
We have defined our priorities centered around recruitment and retention efforts:
- Enhancement of benefits
- Equitable salaries
- Advancements in bonuses
As we navigate these negotiations, it’s crucial to remember that our collective strength is our greatest asset. The road ahead might not be easy, but we want to assure you that we are not alone. We are part of a community that stands up for one another that supports each other even when faced with challenges. The battle we face with Los Angeles County’s negotiation approach might be tough, but our resolve is tougher.
It’s individuals like you who remain steadfast even in the face of challenges who truly embody the spirit of our union. Let’s stand strong together and advocate for what’s right! Let’s show Los Angeles County that we won’t back down!
Below are the goals for the next steps of escalation:
- Conduct virtual membership meetings to inform members about the escalated plan.
- Encourage 90% of BU324 members to sign the petition to support an escalated action plan.
- Identify a Core Action Team of Physicians by selecting one committed physician per department to be the central contact of our communication structure. Our target goal is 100 physician leaders.
- Develop an escalation plan by Thursday, September 21, 2023. (Please note that the communication on this plan will remain verbal for privacy purposes—attend one of the Zoom membership meetings)
By systematically implementing these steps, we will create a solid foundation for achieving our goal of informing and engaging members, garnering substantial support, and establishing an effective Core Action Team. This will significantly contribute to the success of our efforts in the challenging negotiations ahead.
