Union Victory: New Contract Ratified with the State of California

July 28, 2025

After months of negotiations, the Union of American Physicians and Dentists (UAPD) is proud to announce that our physicians, dentists, and podiatrists employed by the State of California have overwhelmingly voted in favor of a new three-year successor contract, effective July 1, 2025, to July 1, 2028.

Even amid challenging State budget projections, our members secured meaningful gains and protections in the new contract. Key wins include:

Job Security and Flexibility

  • No furloughs for the life of the agreement
  • Suspension of the State’s return-to-office requirements until July 1, 2026

Compensation and Benefits

  • 3% general salary increase for all BU16 classifications
  • $1,200 monthly differential for certain CCHCS classification codes who provide full-time direct patient care (including telemedicine)

Professional Development

  • 4-hour increase for continuing medical education leave, from 56 to 60 hours per fiscal year

This contract demonstrates the strength of collective action when unionized physicians and dentists stand united at the bargaining table. Every gain reflects the priorities our members voiced and fought for. This would not have been possible without the solidarity of our members and their ongoing commitment to the UAPD.
