Doctors in Tacoma Are Forming Unions

FAQ About Unionization

Contact UAPD

Dear Colleagues,

Have you heard the news?  Doctors in the Tacoma area are unionizing.  On August 1st, the Union of American Physicians and Dentists (UAPD) delivered a petition to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) requesting that doctors at Auburn Medical Center (AMC) be granted a union representation election.  Doctors voted in favor of the union in an election that ended on October 13th, and the results are expected to be certified by the NLRB.  Soon AMC doctors will begin negotiating with their employer, MultiCare Health System, for their first contract.

You can read the News Tribune article “Auburn Medical Center doctors working to unionize physicians” for more details about the campaign.  Here is the press release about the victory at Auburn Medical Center.

While AMC doctors were the first in the Tacoma-area to begin the unionize, they will not be the last.  Doctors at other MultiCare hospitals are not far behind in their organizing campaigns.  CHI-Franciscan doctors are also organizing their own union.  If you are employed by one of these two corporations, I encourage you to join your colleagues by signing union authorization card. By signing, you agree that you wish to be represented by UAPD for the purposes of negotiating with your employer on wages, hours and working conditions.

If you are ready to sign a union authorization card, you can do so online here:

If you are a doctor working at another facility in the Pacific Northwest, and would like to learn more about unionization, you can contact UAPD.
